We've finally bought our tickets so now it's official. WE'RE GOING TO ASIA! I'm going to put a little plug in for the nice travel agent who helped us out today, Vinson Chan at Vietnam City International Travel, thanks! I had become concerned about how much the airline tickets were going to be (online in my searches it's been around $2200) but Vinson got us tickets for under $1200!!! We've scaled the trip back a bit but how it finally shaped up is:
July 11th: I leave Honolulu and Thao leaves San Francisco
July 12th: We arrive within 5 minutes of each other in Tokyo, Japan (if everything goes according to plan)
July 18th: We fly to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
July 27th: We fly back to Tokyo and then after an 11 hour layover we fly back to the U.S.
July 28th: We arrive back to Honolulu and San Francisco (as appropriate)
We also tried to buy train passes for Japan but it has to be within 3 months of travel so I'm going to go back and buy them in a couple of weeks. Keep checking in on the blog though, plans are forming!
